As small children, we were told many exciting stories about great people, who failed and managed to rise up again. These extraordinary men & women went on to succeed so much that you may think that they were born to only succeed and nothing else.
These successful stories only showcase the rise in their careers, but they do not highlight the struggles, failures, and challenging phases of their lives. This is what we aim to do through this post.
Failure forms an important part of success. As parents, we want our kids to do well in life. However, if they at times experience pitfalls in life, it is important that parents & adults provide support to their kids, instead of chiding them.
The best way to do that would be to narrate these success stories, which were possible only because the individual experienced failures in their lives. It prompted them to think deeply and bring out the best the next time.
Here are some interesting & surprising failure to success stories. They will continue to inspire many generations to face failures in life & achieve greatness.
Michael Jordan: The name resonates with a man who could shoot a basket on the court with his eyes closed. Besides, opponents knew that he could score points for his team until the timer was on. Did you know that he was dropped from his school basketball team? This motivated & inspired him to push harder and do better. According to him, “I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
Walt Disney: He is perhaps, the greatest illustrator & designer of fictional characters that we as children used to enjoy watching. Due to his poor family life & struggles, he forged his birth certificate & joined the army. He then managed to get a job in an advertising firm. Unfortunately, he was laid off due to a lack of creativity. His first character was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Though he tried his luck with Universal Studios, nothing worked out, and that is when he co-founded The Walt Disney Company. In 2017, it was valued at more than $50 billion.
Steven Spielberg: Perhaps, one of the greatest movie directors is Steven Spielberg. Just his name is enough to have a huge line of popular actors. That is his popularity. However, did you know that he was rejected both times he applied to attend the University of Southern California (USC)? Today, he is worth close to $10 billion. Besides, USC, the same university that rejected him twice, gave him an honorary degree and has a hall dedicated in his name.
As you can see, these great men & women have credited failures to their rise to success. If it wasn’t because of their failures, struggles, and adversities in life, they would not have pushed hard enough to reach the pinnacle of fame that they are in today.
Conclusion
As a parent, you may want to realise & understand that failure is part of everybody’s life. You should not compare your kid with somebody else’s and put an end to their confidence. With some encouragement, kind words, and a little bit of help, your kid will rise & shine, when their time comes.
From the above failure-to-success stories, you never know what your child might become tomorrow. So, keep the hope alive, by igniting the flame within them, that everything is possible. Your child can achieve greatness with a bit of hard work, discipline, healthy eating habits, and a dedicated lifestyle.
